Mutt 1.5.22 graphical corruption problem when using pinentry to refresh a gpg key

I am trying to set up mutt as a cli mail agent and when I input my passphrase into pinentry-curses to provide the smtp agent my email accounts password before mutt starts everything is fine but after the TTL of the cached passphrase elapses and I am required to reentry via pinentry is when the problem begins.
Pinentry accepts my passphrase to unlock the key then briefly shows my login shell before returning to mutt with a garbled gui parts of it are missing and controls do not work requiring me to exit the program.

I know mutt is a rather extensively configurable program so I do not know if I have misconfigured it or if I have some other underlying problem however as is I can send and recieve emails and I have no start up errors when I start mutt and this problem exists in both xterm/vte and on the tty.

I am currently using:
Mutt v1.5.22
Linux 3.12.9 x86_64 (archlinux)
ncurses 5.9
libidn 1.28
msmtp v1.4.31

Hi. I use Mutt but I know nothing about pinentry-curses since I don't use gpg.
If you don't get an answer here, then I would suggest you join the mutt users mailing list and ask there. I suggest that also because you'll pick up lots of interesting info about what others are doing with/to mutt.

Send an email to mutt-users-request at mutt.org with the subject "Subscribe Mutt Users" and just enter the word "subscribe" as the message.

Here's the webpage: http://www.mutt.org/mail-lists.html
