Must have software?

Hi all, so far these forums have been a HUGE help. I have Fedora all updated, the nVidia drivers working, and UT2k4 full runs flawlessly.

Now I am ready to venture into the world of making it even more useful. I want to add things that add the features of Windows. In other words, DVD player, music players, etc. Utilities that add functionality, anything that you find you use a lot. I did a few searches have a few ideas but just want a small list if anyone would be so kind.

I also know kinda how to use yum, though I've seen another one (I think called apt) mentioned on these boards, do I need both? I used the custom config file from artoo.net for yum and didn't change it at all.

Well thanks for any help, I'm really glad how easy this process has gone so far.

I've seen this kinda post lots of times in LQ, most all of them have "a small list".
I'll tell you anyway, just to be kind.
This is the software that I use.
Multimedia(videos mainly) --- mplayer
cd audio ---- kscd

I don't know if you also want to know stuff like webrowser but anyway.
Webbrowser ----- firefox (the absolute best I've ever used)
Email client ---- evolution
Viewing pictures --- kuickshow
Office --- Open Office

These are my preferred programs. I'm not sure if this is a proper answer to your question. I'm also lerning C at the moment, which is fun and like to use Kate as an IDE.
