Ardour - The Linux digital audio workstation
Creating Audio CDs With Linux If you want to install Mandrake, there is the Turn-Key Linux Audio that will install some nice goodies for you. |
Also don't forget to check out Harmony Central, and the Audio Software on Freshmeat.
|
Be prepared to have to fiddle with them enormously. I used to use Cakewalk 9 all the time under Windows, and I had the give that up when I switched to linux. I have yet to get any of the recording programs found on sourceforge or freshmeat to work correctly.
It sucks, too, because ardour looks like it would be a nice program. |
Turnkey installs that for you. :D
I can't wait to get my computer moved to my "sound studio control room" (where I hope to silence my noisy computer from the mikes) and hook up my mikes and preamp to try it out. That's the one reason why I have installed Mandrake. |
Hey, turnkey sounds pretty cool! When you said "installs goodies", I was figuring on just some add on effect or something, I didn't know it installed Ardour! This quite possibly may make my computer perfect! I'm downloading the tarball as I type!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!! I know have Audacity running perfectly. Thanks, man!! I tried at least half a dozen times to install that damned program! YES! Thank you!

:tisk: Bow before the power of Tux! :D
What's your hardware? |
thanks, ill try all of those. this was pretty much the last thing keeping me using windows, i'll be getting off of it if one of these programs works. my system specs are posted in my signature.... below.

Ummm before I go downloading this massive file I wanted to ask if it works in RedHat. From what I've read it looks like Turnkey only works in Mandrake.
|
Just Mandrake just now but they are working on other distros, so keep an eye on that site.
|
Okay thanks. I wonder why it only works with Mandrake.

ah, unfortunately i have no experience with cvs files and ardour is pretty much only available as cvs so...
1. when downloading ardour do i grab the folder that sourceforge seems to be offering or is there a single file to download and install from with cvs or what? 2. why cvs, why no tarball? |
Now is your chance to learn how to use cvs. :D
CVS tutorial Some packages are only available through CVS (bleedin' edge stuff). The Ardour home page should give a reason. I think I saw why when I first heard about the project. |
