Music note editing software

I was wondering if anyone knows of any good software for arranging and editing musical notes and then playing back the results. I'd prefer if it is something that doesn't have too much of a learning curve. Ideally, it would be something in Debian Squeeze's repositories but I understand if it's something I'd have to set up manually or even if it's a Windows app I need to run in WINE. Just as long as it's free (as in beer) and reasonably easy to work with, I'm happy.

Hi. You could try any or all of the following:-

mscore, rosegarden, lilypond

(I don't know if they are in the debian repositories, but it's fairly likely that they are).

Hi, including some of the above, songwrite2 is a good program that plays as you type and plays back a sequence.

It has another purpose, it's able to transcribe from guitar(staff) to tab and prints both.

There's a few instruments to choose from and every key where the instrument allows(sax?).

I use it to tab modes and scales for guitar.

Regards Glenn
