Music and Youtube

I guess this is two questions.
I'm very new to linux in general.

What do I need to do to be able to view youtube videos on youtube?
Is there an application what will allow me to listen to mp3s.

I have several GB of mp3 music. And since I use those files for various things, including using them on another computer I don't think converting them all will be the best thing for me. Is there any way to avoid converting a ton of mp3 files and still being able to listen to them in linux Ubuntu.

I have Ubuntu 8.04 - the Hardy Heron - released in April 2008
which I just installed Saturday.

Nothing much has been done at all other than I downloaded the waiting updates.

ERH_1957, for watching youtube you need flash. Just look on google for a repository that contains flash. Or try to search if the repos that you already use have flash. It's simple, just open a terminal and write "apt-cache search flash". If you get something that looks like "flashplugin-nonfree" (or at least like this it's called under Debian), run "sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree" and you're done. Restart your browser and you can watch youtube.
You should have apps that can play MP3. Look for Amarok or Audacious. Linux is compatible with everything, so when you need something ask here or ask google
PS There are more programs that can play MP3's. For example, I often use MOC (it's for console, so don't install it :P )

Hi, welcome to LQ forums.

You need flash-player for youtube and propriatery mp3 codecs for playing mp3 files. There are instructions for Flash here and for mp3 here

If you go to a website that uses flash that isn't youtube:

http://paperhub.co.uk/games/game.php?id=51

You will get a popup. Select the one from Flash, and it'll do the rest itself.

Btw that wasn't spam it's the first thing I found.
