museek install problem

Hello,
I am a Nicotine (file sharing app) user but often it just breaks and i can never find out why.. ive decided to try museek but i can not get it to install. when i run
the 'scons install' command it errors out when it is looking for libxml.. i
have 2 diff versions (libxml++-1.0.so.1 and libxml++-2.6.so.1) of libxml
installed in /usr/lib/ but i always get an error message saying "please
install libxml where pkg-config can find it". i even double checked to make
sure that i had pkg-config installed.. i do. is there any way that i can
modify the install script so that it will find my installation of libxml? if anyone can help me please let me know..

Hello leaveone

Glad you posted this. I haven't had museek installed for a while, thinking it was an orphaned project. It seems to be very much alive in the fork called museek+.

The last time I installed using the deb package museek_050507 and ran into a problem with scons/libxml++ also. It's possible that the needed lib is named slightly differently than libxml++-1.0.so.1 (such as libxml++-1.0.so.0). Seem to remember digging a lib out of an older package of libxml++. Maybe even a symbolic link would work.

Have you checked this out?

I just installed using the apt-get method listed there and it worked very slick. Just be careful with musetup-gtk, installing that package needed some very major changes on my system. It's not needed as the command line musetup works just fine.

I'm running Mepis 3.4.3 (etch) so ymmv.

Museek is a 2 part program. Museekd runs in the background, the project descibes it as a daemon/server. You need to run a frontend like museeq to use the program.

Look in your menu (btw, are you running kde?) for a museeq entry. If it's not there try entering museeq in a terminal. Museeq has a menu for starting museekd.

If this doesn't work at least it might give a clue to the problem.
