hey proud ure solution worked...just realised that i could open up tons of windows without the system becoming unbelievably slow, everything seems smooth now...so i guess the problem was the high mem..

big thanx to everyone..

Just get yourself an external hardware modem. It`s a lot easier in the long run and they are a superior modem for both linux and windows
