Multiple SCREENS, different WM's. And some other stuff...

In Mandrake 8.1, I tried out multiple screens. I hated the shared desktop and was pleased to find I could disable the xinerama extension. Gone. Goodbye. Less like Windows, More Happy.

Within each screen, I could set different window managers within a conf utility inside of KDE and Gnome, it was great... I like Gnome, I like KDE. I could use both.

I'm using Gentoo, and I want to do that again. I'm sure it's simple, I just want someone to point me in the right direction so I don't blunder up my system and have to post a few more times or, uh, reinstall... uh... again.

While I'm saving myself a few posts, I'll put some other things that I can think of that I want done.

I'm trying to take advantage of multiple screens in the console, and I can't really find any utilities that... utilize them.

Is it BAD to use Win XP cores for Wine? I mean.. the DLL's outta be SOMEWHAT compatable...

USB Joystick, neet Saitek Cyborg Graphite... Should be simple enough, what are the prerequisites? It's just 4 buttons, 8-way hat, and 3 axis.

Ah... this one might be a little more difficult... Nostromo USB Gamepad by Belkin, rediculously configurable. Is it reasonable to think I can run the normal utility in Wine with full HID support and everything?

I got my WPC 11 Version 4 working. It Works. It Doesn't Not Work. It might seem off hand to state that here, but if anyone reads this, just post here to ask me how to make it work. I'm using Gentoo, and it's a RTL8180L chipset.

Is there real alpha blending in XFree? I can have this pretty show background transparency... and that's it. That's more like, render to alpha layer - composite - render conditionally, not composite render to alpha layer unconditionally, *sigh*, like Windows does normally.

APM support. I was about to put something here, but it's actually working... oddly enough. Don't ask me how I did it.. that's the power of Gentoo.

And some final arguments... Use Gentoo or I'll cut off your big toe. If you want to compile everything from scratch. If you have a good idea what you're doing. If you know what the "man" command does. If you actually want your already superiour operating system to be even more stable, faster, and self-compatable. Most importantly, if you care. www.gentoo.org

Sorry for this... willy nilly post... I'm half asleep and a quarter awake.
