multiple authentication and 2FA

Hi guys, I've recently obtained some tools for two factor authentication - can this be directly attached to /etc/shadow in any way? So for example when I login to something I'm asked for my password (password123 for example) and then on the same line I enter my 2FA key (meaning the password is password1237890).

Basically (this is where things get complex) I'm using a tacacs server to connect to some cisco kit, which uses /etc/shadow for authentication, I'd like to link this directly with 2FA. Hope that makes sense, if not, reply.
