is there a driver or application / media player that will allow me to use camstream ,kopete cheese on the same camera at the same time.
and let flash web sites use the cam as well .

AFAIK the V4L team is working on a v4l server, that will support multiple applications accessing a single video hardware device. I've also heard of another project called "CameraCast" that's attempting to allow the same kind of access, but in a different manner.

As of now though, I don't believe it's possible except maybe if each application is using gstreamer.

how long has split cam been around unfortunately Linux as a desktop is still behind in the video department, sorry for my useless comment just a little lost at the moment. would like to be able to have a conference across a few apps and be able to call up video during it.

Why you didn;t buy camera before doing some research. You should have bought camera by doing some market survey as to see a driver or application / media player that will allow you to use camstream ,kopete cheese on the same camera at the same time.I am new so don't mind if my answer will not help you.
