MTU size, slow webpages

My network runs from a Windows xp connected to sympatico DSL

All windows computers after some time stop showing certain webpages and I figured out a long time ago that I needed to change the MTU size to about 1300 something.

I updated this box to linux 2.6.3 recently and I'm not sure if it's related but now certain websites still work but are extremely slow. Google takes a second or two compared to instantaneous before.

I use Mozilla and cache setting are still the same. Also the network still runs fast and other webpages haven't changed.

using "ping -s" I can go as high as 65515 bytes.

Is this an MTU problem and if so how do I change it.

I went to Mandrake control center
Under hardware and ethernet card
I clicked configure module
In Multicast filter limit I put the number 1300 (I just guessed)

It seems to have worked.. however time will tell

Thanks anyway

some routers wll support these type settings - if you set it in the router you don't have to mess with the pc's.
