MSN Messenger?

Is there an MSN Messenger clone for Linux?

I don't know but I think I've seen the word "Licq" somewhere on a Linux dedicated web page so I guess it's a Linux version of ICQ.

GAIM works with MSN, I heard also gabber/jabber works with MSN and others, try search here I saw some threads dedicated to IM clients.

The coolest M$N messenger I have used so far is KMess. It can be docked into the system tray, it behaves vermuch like the Windoze M$N Client. You can get kmess from apps.kde.com

Other M$N clients I have used in linux are GAIM (need to load plugin) and kopete.

Use gaim its the best.....msn rocks in gaim

To use msn when you loginto aim click on plugins. then click load and pic the one that says msn something then make a account and underprotocol change it to msn (duh) and youll have it.

it totally rocks it even has mail thing to tell you when you get mail just like the windows one....

Is there a list of Messengers for Linux anywhere on the net?
(Like a master list of clones?)

Phonics3k 06-20-2002 02:11 PM

no i dont think there is, but that is a good idea so i think i will add that to my website

Druaga 06-20-2002 03:21 PM

I tried Kmerlin, but couldnt get it to install/run properly. I tried ccmsn, but it wont connect properly. It might just be because of my proxy server though.

Druaga 06-20-2002 04:24 PM

when using Kmess, isnt there anyway to set it to go through a proxy server???

Well, you can go to tucows.com and search in linux for messenger, I got 38 results.

Here is GAIM for those of you wondering. I personally use Everybuddy but it seems to have a few bugs in the version I have that need to be worked out. I think I am going to give GAIM a run.

Phonics3k 06-21-2002 06:49 AM

I have tried everybuddy but the version i had didnt have msn, I then tried kmerlin which i couldnt find when it was installed.

I then tried Kopete, this 1 is good, but i think i will keep tryin them out to see which 1 is the best:D
