kmess. I think they are pretty good / cool . It's my favorige messenger, and has everything I'am missing in the MSN Messenger 4/5/6

You'll need to compile from CVS to have support for the new msn protocol though. (other protocol versions will be blocked as of 15-oct by Microsoft)

One other I'd suggest: centericq .. unlike it's name suggests it does support other messenger protocols.
