MSN/IRC Logging

I use aMSN and ChatZilla (via Firefox). I've tried XChat too. There's basically only one qualm I got: logging. I always log my conversations. I've managed to log with aMSN under Windows, in Linux though, it works good, but I don't know where aMSN stores the files. Where's the program folder? You know, like in Windows there's C:\Program Files but I have no idea where that folder exists in Linux. I use Mandrake 10.2 LE at the moment. Also, I didn't get aMSN to log the files as unicode. Since I speak Swedish, I use letters like åäö and these are stored very weird. Can gaim and kopete log too? I din't find any logging option with these programs.

Program settings and logs are usually stored in hidden folders in your Home directory starting with a . (dot). For example, settings for gaim are located in /home/[userid]/.gaim

Other programs are in /usr, /usr/bin, and /usr/local.

the amsn logs might be in a folder named /home/username/.amsn which is a hidden directory.

How do I view hidden folders? It should be possible to choose where to save the log files. Will these be an available option in future versions of aMSN perhaps? Is it possible to log with Kopete/GAIM?

It's under:

~/.amsn/username_hotmail_com/logs/yourcontact@hotmail.com.log

So I found the log files now. That's not the problem anymore. What I need now, is to set XChat in Unicode mode. It displays the letters едц for me correct, but people who can see what I'm writing on IRC don't see them accurately. Also, is it possible to store XChat in system tray?
