Well, normally you can install those via some sort of gui package manager. kpackage comes to mind.

However, you can also install via the command line. If you know any command line usage, I'd suggest giving this a try. Go to the directory where the package is located:
cd /path/to/package
rpm -ivh packagename.rpm

This will install it. You do need to be root to do this. For now though, I'd suggest checking out a gui tool, kpackage is very user friendly, or you have Mandrake Software Manager. Both should be easy to find in either your KDE Control Center, or your Mandrake Control Center.

BTW, you've probably already got a program installed that will work with the MSN IM protocol. Go to run, and type:
gaim
If gaim opens up, then that's one option. If you get an error message, then try:
everybuddy
This too supports MSN protocol (however GAIM is far superior IMO).

Gabber (type 'gabber' to run) too I believe supports MSN protocol, as well as many others.

Cool

Some ideas for you to consider

1. If you like mandrake become a member it allows access to alot of developed packages easy,

2. An RPM file is sort of like and install file

3. learn how to use urpmi, it allows you to configure mirrors to download packages and automaticly install them, eg

urpmi kopte (a msn among others client for kde)

that command run as superuser will find the package in the sources you have configured and install it

4. If your after the more exotic packages the ones that might have a few copywrite restricitions or the like visit PLF (www.plf.zarb) I think....

Kopete is the best msn messanger client for mandrake ive come across,

5. if you manually download a package (.rpm) right click on it and select open with package manager or the other (i can remember which of the two options is better but one is experiement)

good luck
Good luck
