Well here is the newbie again the recent convert to the open source movement .
I want to use MSN I have Mandrake 9.1 I have been to their site and that stated that Gaim and Gabber are two clients that can be used for the msn network.
Is their any other programs,
Lastly tar.zip what is the proper to open and install this files on Mandrake 9.1
gaim is indeed the best. Kopete is a close second for me though. You should have a copy of gaim with Mandrake, look it up on the software installer. It's a bit out of date though, as gaim has progressed to 0.62 instead of 0.5x version that comes with Mandrake. If you're happy enough with the version that comes with Mandrake then great, if not, compiling gaim from source is easy. You can pick it up at http://gaim.sourceforge.net
Distribution: Gentoo, Debian, Ubuntu, Red Hat/CentOS

...he's right. ALWAYS opt for a RPM over over source installation whenever possible. Search high and low if you must. Source installs on a rpm distro get very messy.
