msaccess & wine
Trying to run msaccess 97 in wine, I'm getting a "msaccess cannot start because there is no licence for it" error. I'm sure this is NOT a problem with the msaccess installation because I CAN run this program with older versions of wine.
I have a dual boot winME/Debian system, the Debian actually started out as a Kanotix BH9 install. Prior to that it had several versions of knoppix installed so I still have a bunch of old knoppix disks lying around. I can run msaccess with any of these prior to switching to the 2.6 kernel with Knoppix 3.4. In fact Knoppix 3.4 has both the 2.4 and the 2.6 kernel and msaccess will run on the 2.4 kernel but not on the 2.6 kernel. So, I don't think it's the msaccess install. Would somebody out there please try to run msaccess 97 with wine on their system & tell me if it works? I'm just trying to figure out if it's possible or if something incompatible popped up with the 2.6 kernel or if it's just my system (maybe something with Knoppix/Kanotix implementation of the 2.6 kernel). I'm also trying to run TurboCAD under wine. I have an old copy of turboCAD LE which was a free download. It runs but is buggy with the latest versions of wine but runs fine under the old Knoppix disks. It's hard to find now, freecad.com was carrying it but seems to not be there any more. I think it is listed on gnutella, if anybody would download it from there & test run it on their system I'd appreciate it. I think it's the file labled 'turbocad.exe, 15.49 Kb'. The bugs are in dimensioning & editing the properties, I'll explain in more detail if anybody is able to help. Thanks |
You might try to just convert your database to a linux database and do away with Access. Try this tutorial...
Also, never used TurboCAD (it's Solidworks at work) but you might try QCAD on linux. Here's a list of other CAD programs being developed under linux. Not sure which are good/bad, but you can always try them out... |
Hello,
this is a known bug with MS-Access 97/200x It's a missing Registry entry. Sometimes "Setup /Y" will help. But you can also try deinstall Office/Access. Also use the Eraser-Kit for Office. There are also various links to this problem Have a look at www.donkarl.com (german). HTH |
This bugfix does not appear to be the answer. First, I do have the registry line
Code:
\\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Licences\8CC49940-3146-11CF-97A1-00AA00424A9F As for just using Linux alternate programs...I want to use access to maintain compatibility with outside systems, and QCad is just not up to being an alternative. Turbocad, even a very old version like turbocad le (which is actually version 4, the last 2D turbocad version dating from about 1995) is superior in almost all respects, including easier and more intuitive to run and (most important) gives a superior result. QCad is not really capable of professional drawing layout, particularly in areas like dimensioning layout. I HAVE looked for alternative Cad programs that will run on Linux without success. |

but....
Wine is supposed to or at least tries to run windows programs on a linux box. In this case it is not working, and with a very common windows program and one that USED to run under different versions of wine and/or different kernels. This is really a bughunt to find out why it doesn't work any more and if it can be made to work. Is there anybody out there who can confirm that msaccess 97 does work under newer versions of wine? |
(bump)
