mrtg not displaying

Hi All.

I'm getting a 404 error saying that the webpage cannot be found when I try to display mrtg on my web server. I have searched through Google and looked at various web pages and numerous news groups. I have checked the permissions on the apache directories and files in question. I have tried different browsers. I have also looked through the FAQ. I've also tried connecting from different computers. Still the same result. I'm running Apache 2.0.52. Any ideas?

How are you generating the stats? Like this?:

mrtg /path/to/mrtg.cfg

indexmaker --output=/path/to/htdocs/index.html /path/to/mrtg.cfg

Hi bitva.

I have this line in my crontab:

/usr/local/mrtg-2/bin/mrtg /var/www/html/mrtg/core/mrtg.cfg

I'm kind of new to this, so maybe I don't understand this well enough.

THanks for the reply!

k, create a shell script with something like this:

#!/bin/bash

/usr/local/mrtg-2/bin/mrtg /var/www/html/mrtg/core/mrtg.cfg

indexmaker --output=/var/www/html/mrtg/index.html /var/www/html/mrtg/core/mrtg.cfg

I'm guessing in your browser your going to: http://localhost/mrtg/index.html if not then change the path in the indexmaker --output= line to whatever it is.

Then run the script a few times. The first few times you run it, you'll get error messages about RATEUP and overwriting files and whatever. The 3rd or 4th time you run the script it should run successfully (no messages). Then check it in your browser and make sure you see the graphs. Then add this script file to your crontab to run every 5 or 10 minutes (or whatever).

Well, it looks there are/were a couple of problems. One, I had to create a completely separate entry for mrtg, away from apache. Since I just installed rt, rt is a control freak and overwrites anything in the apache directory. Along with that I needed to create a ServerAlias for mrtg. Since I needed to create a ServerAlias and NameVirtualHost. Since I created these I also needed a DNS entry for these to get them to look at the mrtg data. What a hassle. Well, anyway, just thought people would want to know. Thanks for the help!
