mplayerplug-in and wmv files?

I have mplayer working fine ,works great accept when I try to play wmv files from the net. If I copy the link and paste it in to mplayer it runs but if I just click on it in my brouser it just comes up as a bunch of code so I think it must be an mplayerplug-in issue. All other files run all right from the brouser. Anyone know how to fix this.
Thanks

You didn't mention your browser, but I'll assume its Mozilla. To check your plugins, type about:plugins in the URL bar. Make sure the wmv file extension is associated with the mplayer plugin. Another thing you can to is check Edit...Preferences...Navigator...Helper Applications and make sure wmv isn't associated with anything there. And the final place for file association info (that I know of) is /etc/mailcap. Read through that and see if there's anything relevant.
I once had a similar file association problem: My default for ".rpm" was some sort of media format...

I use Opera and it's about the same fix. Check the settings under multimedia and point to the right player for media files. All should work fine then.

Freshmeat has an mplayerplugin.
