mplayer x11/xv no tv out

I am using Mplayer on Ubuntu 5.10. Mplayer works well, and I have tv out working with ATI drivers. My only issue is that when I play a video in mplayer with video set to x11/xv (which gives the best picture on my computer) the video does not show up on my tv. Everything else shows, the video window just looks black on my tv, while it is playing video on the computer. Any ideas?
