mplayer wont play fullscreen

HI,

I am using mplayer 1.0pre2 and I have libSDL installed. when i play a file from the commandline using
mplayer -vo sdl -fs girlsgonewild.mpg it plays fullscreen
BUT
when i try to play it using the gui or kmplayer it simply wont go fullscreen and in video options, there is no option to select sdl. (I CAN do it for audio). Setting vo=sdl in the config file (/usr/etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf) doesnt help either. Need fullscreen ASAP to view online lectures (seriously, j/k above).
Please HELP !

M
