Mplayer woes: "[format] Sample format big-endian AC3 not yet supported"

ive looked all over google at this point to find a definitive correction to this most annoying issue with mplayer. im trying to play a dvd via mplayer and the sound output is nothing but fuzzy/loud noise accompanied by this error "[format] Sample format big-endian AC3 not yet supported". the annoying this is that this problem doesnt exist with xine. so what would xine be doing that mplayer is not doing as far as this sound issue.

i keep bumping into this libdts as a possible fix, however after installing that and recompiling mplayer, i still got no lovin.

anyhelp here would be greatly appreciated, for this is drivin me crazy.

Code:
