Mplayer video output device problem

I just installed Mplayer on my linux box, which uses a nVidia card.

At first, Mplayer doesn't work, because it gives "Mplayer error opening/initializing video out device" error all the time.

After reading mplayer doc, I find that xv device is not working:

# xvinfo
X-Video Extension version 2.2
screen #0
no adaptors present

I tried to use VIDIX (-vo vidix), but still get "Mplayer error opening/initializing video out device" error.

# mplayer -vo help

Using x11 or gl does play the video, but they are so slow that you can feel each frame (I bet less than 10 fps). Could anyone help to make xv or xvidix work for me? Many thanks.

Hya,

It looks like your mplayer supports xvidix, (according help output).

If I remember correct, there is a debug level option. Did you check output with this option on?

Happy Penguins!

I tried to download and install VIDIX, from sourceforge (source code, make/install), and from some .rpm files. But that doesn't help. Could anyone tell what's wrong? Thanks.
