MPlayer v1.0pre3 GUI Crash Error

Just wanted to ask if anyone has seen a similar problem BEFORE I post a ton of output error information. I have a strange error popping up seemingly at random. But it seems to be happening only with the GUI function<s> of mplayer. At the end of playing some files, whether WMV or QT, (So far), the video file finishes playing, and I get an error message/crash. It also happens at random when I click on buttons in the GUI. Like stop playing button, or open file list. But it does not happen everytime, nor always in the same place when it happens. I have not seen the error happen from terminal. This may also seem wierd, but I seem to get the error MORE with some skins than from other skins. I am currently using the 'powerplayer' skin. The other problem is, the error message does not specify the module causing the problem, see output message below. Now let me say, the player is working GREAT, can play direct to my geforce2, in anysize window including full screen. Quality is excellent, sound is excellent, its just that the program crashes now and then when file is done playing or I hit a button. (Which I could PROBABLY live with, but still, its the principle :) I compiled from source, following the readme file line by line, and it seemed to compile fine. I had all codecs in directory before compiling, etc. I'm running RH9, did NOT install from RPM nor from APT. (APT Has old version of 0.9, not even 0.92). Should I just try deleting this version and compile 0.92? Possibly the errors due to the fact its a prerelease? Thanks, will post more info if needed by anyone. Still new to linux, but REALLY trying here :) Thanks, and where to start?

Error message:

MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: unknown
- MPlayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM.
Recompile MPlayer with --enable-debug and make a 'gdb' backtrace and
disassembly. Details in DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports_what.html#bugreports_crash.
- MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen.
It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your
gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read
DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and
won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug.

well you said that you are new to linux so maybe this is a bit much to throw your way...

The link below takes you to the Beyond Linux from Scratch page that has info about compiling from source. You will need to ./configure (stuff you used) and then make uninstall to remove what you had previously installed. Then try using some of the configure flags that are specified on the webpage below. Honestly I cannot tell you whether or not this will solve your problem, but LFS is my system and Mplayer works just fine for me.

In the end you may find yourself trying out a Linux from Scratch installation. I promise that this will lead you to becoming MUCH more comfortable with Linux. Anyway good luck.

I thought of some thing else. You might want to play with the video settings in Mplayer. Select preferences from the main menu and go to video (using gui version of course). Make sure that for the selected video driver you dont use HARD frame dropping (maybe make sure that both framedropping selections are turned off). That should fix your problem...or I hope it does.

Thanks for the info, but I think I have it. Although I can't figure out why. I'm posting this update just in case anyone else searches for a similar problem. I did some experimenting with the settings, etc even before I had originally posted. As I said, all formats of video work perfect, and all sounds worked great. All look and sound as good if not better than it did on my Windoze system. It's just that it would crash when video was done or when I'd choose a file. Here's some things I found:

I could get problem to repeat EVERY time if I started a video playing, hit the STOP button on skin, and right away would right click on either the player interface or the video window to bring up the menu. Each and everytime, it would die with the message I posted before. I checked in the terminal window when trying to start to play using the 'PowerPlayer' Skin. I saw it with another skin or two, but don't have that data right now. The error message I got when trying to play anything using this skin was:
"libpng warning: Incomplete compressed datastream in iCCP chunk"
"libpng warning: Profile size field missing from iCCP chunk"

In fact, twice it's crashed on me just trying to select that skin. Now since I have tried using and am running the 'Orange' skin, I have not had ONE crash or error of any type. This held true for the Xine-LCD skin as well, and the default BLUE skin. They were also working with no problems. I just had a feeling this error had something to do with the skin. The other thing I noticed was I got more errors/crashes with skins that autoplayed the file. In other words, I would click on open file, browse to the file, and as soon as I clicked the file, it would start playing. Not so with the Orange skin. The file gets loaded, but will not play until you hit the play button. I don't know if these things are helpful, maybe they are. I'm posting this message with the hopes it helps somebody later :) If it does later in the future, send a mail to me at linux-fan64_at_wi.rr_dot_com. Or if anyone like a forum Moderator thinks it could even be helpful to the developers, or you just think I need to edit this and make it more searchable with more details, let me know. I'm happy to give back to the community in the little ways I can.
