mplayer: symbol lookup error

Been searching for hours for a fix for this error, when I try to run gmplayer:
gmplayer: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/ undefined symbol: XListInputDevices
From what I've read, it seems that this is a result of a bad compile/install of gtk-1.2.10? Does anyone know how to fix this?

My mplayer is working fine, but I've been having trouble for weeks even installing glib, much less gtk, much much less gmplayer. lol...

If you provide errors when your installing such applications and libraries, it might help us determine your problem, which can be anything at this point.
