mplayer : subtitles question

I'm using mplayer and I can't display the subtitles in the black space at the bottom of a 16:9 movie (outside of the picture).
Is there any way to do so ?

Thanks

well thing is there *IS* no real black space on the picture, that is just padded up space on full screen. use the "-vop expand" filter to actually create this space properly and then subtitles will be rendered onto that space.

done

I used " -vop expand=0:-50:0:0 " which is the example given in the mplayer man page and that's it. Merci !
