Question Mplayer Screenshots?

i'm just wondering how people take screenshots in which the output actually shows up as opposed to just the blue box as seen:

HERE

any help would be appreciated!

Are you pausing the movie first ? I find it works best if you pause the movie first to take the screenshot.

Well I'm not sure about the gui interface, I use mplayer from the command line and I seem to get screenshots off that way with no problems.

One of my screenshots with mplayer. http://www.butterchump.com/sshot1.png

also tried taking a screenie while running mplayer from the console. i think it has something to do with the picture not being saved due to the codec required to display it. probably wrong, but this happened in windows as well a long time ago. thanks for the suggestions, though.

Maybe it's a problem with the output device? Maybe try xv or x11, or one of the other choices?

Cool

yeah you'll need X11 as that goes through the X backend, as opposed to xv which bypasses X being written striaght to the graphics card.

I had this problem too, here's how I solved it (with the help of some folks on #linuxhelp on freenode):

mplayer -vo x11 dvd://1

I don't really know what it means (and don't care, at the moment ;-) ), except that '-vo' is some sort of different video mode. Then you can run "ksnapshot" or whatever, and the captures should work.

Note that this weird mplayer incantation requires you to try different values after "dvd://" untill you get to the right track; different disks have the actual movie on different tracks. Try dvd://1, dvd://2, ... etc, until you get where you want to be. It's sort of a pain.

Under Redhat 8 I could take screenshots from Ogle, no problem, which isn't the best app in the world but at least you can navigate through the "chapters" to skip around the disk. I've never had any luck running xine, so I don't know about screenshots there.

My two, uh, bits.
