mplayer problem (error)

I’m having a problem with mplayer, I type mplayer /dev/dvd and I get this error message...

Playing /dev/dvd
Detected MPEG-ps file format!

DEMUXER: Too many (4096 in 8266956 bytes) video packets in the buffer!
(Maybe you play a non-interleaved stream/file or the codec failed?)
For avi files, try to force non-interleaved mode with option –ni
MPEG: No audio stream found… ->no sound
Video: mpeg2 720x480 (aspect 2) 29.97 fps 10000.0 kbps (1250.0 kbyte/s)
Open: no such device
Couldn’t open /dev/mga_vid
Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device!

Do I need a codec or something? I already have ogle and It plays my dvd (lord of the rings). Using mplayer0.90pre7 – the latest version.

You should specify a device. Something like this:

mplayer -vo xv -dvd 1

Might work for ya.

Cool

try mplayer -dvd 1 -cache 65536

it might work.

tells us the result.

masterc's suggestion worked, when i did yours cyrille, it seemed to cash the dvd and then stopped without playing.

i've also noticed that my sound is out of sync with the movie. any ideas on how to fix that?

here are some errors im still seeing....

cant open /root/.mplayer/codecs.conf no such file or directory
cant open /root/.mplayer/input.conf no such file or directory
font: cant open file /root/.mplayer/font/font.desc
Linux RTC init error: no such device

i'm thinkin that one of these errors could be related to the sound problem.

acid_kewpie 09-06-2002 05:02 PM

they are not errors, just information. ignore them

As for sound is being off sync with video you should look at enabling DMA for your dvd-rom drive, and the specs of your machine

oh.. sound... make sure your computer is good... adn use + and - to control the sound offset
