Mplayer Plug-in Apple HD Trailers

I noticed my mplayer plugin won't play some of the newer apple hd trailers.
Specifically, this site won't work.
http://www.apple.com/trailers/disney...esofnarnia/hd/

Anyone getting any luck with this?

Do any other linux plugins work for this? I really like mplayer for streaming video and would like to keep using it, if I could.

Okay, heres what I get when I try to play the file directly after I downloaded it.

MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: init_audio_codec
- MPlayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM.
Recompile MPlayer with --enable-debug and make a 'gdb' backtrace and

- MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen.
It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your
gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read
DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and
won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug.

Having a fresh look at this problem myself. Your post made me realise that the problem wasn't just me doing a reinstall of mplayer that failed. I had had it playing quicktime previously. Only thing I can think of is to download and install the latest version of linux quicktime. Having another go now myself.

It doesn't sound like linux quicktime is going to much for me.

"Be aware of one thing: Quicktime for Linux won't read any of the movies you download from the internet. Quicktime is a wrapper for many different kinds of compression formats. What you knew as "Quicktime 4", "Quicktime 5", "Quicktime 6", are really different distributions of compression formats. The codecs we support are mainly uncompressed."

The new trailers at apple won't play. The current native quicktime plugins can't read the new quicktime format. Only thing to do is to wait and hope or try crossover office or whatever that wine product is.

I tried crossover office and it still doesn't work, sadly. With the current version of Crossover Office I can only go up to quicktime 6.5. I'm going to try copying some of files over from windows, but I still don't think it'll work.

I appear to have QT working for some movie trailers that ask for QT7 but not Chronicle of Narnia - here I just get a blank page not even one asking for plugins. Crossover 4.0 and wine using AppleQT7 bombed out initially so I didn't pursue error messages, but moved on.

I'm not entirely sure how I did this, all I can tell you is the versions I used. Haven't had time to properly check out how I did it. I followed the procedures set out in a SuSE-wiki for installation in SuSE9.3.
Basically install libraries, install dvd codec, install MPlayer and kaffeine, I also downloaded multimedia packages from their site as well as the ones recommended on packman.org for SuSE9.3. I also updated to the following packages manually before doing the installation.

libxine1-2.1.1-0.pm.0.i686.rpm
libquicktime-devel-0.9.4-1.pm.1.i586.rpm
libquicktime-0.9.8pre2.tar.gz

I think these ones are the important ones.

Please let me know how you go.

Cheers

mplayerplug-in will work with the Apple HD trailers if you have current version of mplayer. mplayer 1.0pre7try[1,2,3] are not new enough. You must have mplayer CVS from at least Oct 2005. As for the audio problem, make sure you have a current mplayer and have compiled with a recent FAAD library as well.

SuSE users including 10.0 OSS might like to check the packman site packman.links2linux.org for the latest version of MPlayer, MPlayer-1.0pre7try3-1.i586.rpm which definitely allows you to play latest Apple stuff, providing you have all the necessary libraries installed.

As kdekorte already has said, these HD trailers require a version of mplayer that supports H.264. Currenly only the CVS version supports it. The mplayer 1.0pre7tryx versions do not.

If you had READ my post you would have realised that I named a much later version to the one you could not get to work! Secondly there is a problem with the link you quoted as it cannot be resolved as per YOUR output!

Some quick tests on the apple.com site again showed this version to be working just fine.

An apology might be nice.

mplayer does play h.264 and aac. I have the latest version of mplayer (mplayer-1.0-0.26.20060314.fc5) and mplayerplug-in (3.21). The only thing I must mention is that I could not play the h.264 videos with mplayerplug-in embeded mode. I had to add noembed=1 to $HOME/.mplayer/mplayerplug-in.conf
and it looks great. I really hope more and more media adapts this format.

Oh btw thanks guys. There was even a cvs package available from livna. It works perfectly. Especially after I disabled that silly KDE sound system.
