mplayer plays my DVD, but there's no video

I'm trying out Mplayer, but don't really understand the controls yet. When I tell it to play a DVD, I hear its audio playing, but the larger window with "MPLAYER" disappears from the screen and I can't see any video.

AntiX 12. At this point I've figured out that I'm missing something (probably a certain video driver), because I ran a different distro (VectorLinux) and can see the video in Mplayer there.
