I have a system that allows the user to play mp3 files through mplayer. Currently though, they can trigger two mp3 files to play at the same time and the audio overlaps. What I need mplayer to do, is play one file after the other, like in a playlist. Once a file has been played once, mplayer can forget about it, but I need to be able to stack new track requests onto the end of the current playlist and for mplayer to play them as they appear.

Can this be done in mplayer, or some other mp3 playing package?

I don't know if mplayer caches it, if it doesn't then you can just append to the file.

My only problem with that, is I have to monitor mplayer to see if it has finished playing the current playlist, else it would stop the existing one, and start the new one.

I think I've solved this. I'm working in slave mode and can use the loadfile command to append to the playlist.
