mplayer or xine set my computer on standby

Hello,

I have no problem to play videos in xine or mplayer but sometimes the player displays a blue screen with green squares in fullscreen, the computer looks frozen then it turns to standby and when I wake the box from standby everything is back to normal... Weird isn't it?

I have to mention that this is my second install of redhat 9 and I already had this problem with the first installation. Mplayer has been installed with apt-get.

Another question : is it possible to add video codecs to mplayer without recompiling it?

Thanks a lot for your help
