MPlayer only generates png, no x output

I use redhat 9.0 and tried to install MPlayer-1.0pre1.tar.gz

I tried to do config with the gui, but whenever it gets to that part it just breaks, not leaving anything in the config log. Anyway I compile it without the gui, but it still doesn't work.

When I do mplayer -vo help

Available video output drivers:
fbdev Framebuffer Device
fbdev2 Framebuffer Device
png PNG file
null Null video output
pgm PGM file
md5 MD5 sum
mpegpes Mpeg-PES file
yuv4mpeg yuv4mpeg output for mjpegtools (to "stream.yuv")
vesa VESA VBE 2.0 video output
tga Targa output

it only tries to generate png files instead of displaying the video.

I have a ati radeon 9000 card.

Hope someone can help with this

found the error, was lacking the gtk package, installing it helped, and I was able to compile it again.

now it runs with x11 and everything is looking good
