Mplayer on G3? Other way to play QT files?

Greetings,

Has anyone successfully installed Mplayer on a PowerPC with a G3 processor? I can't find any mention of it on the Mplayer site or any forums here. Would you suggest I try asking on the hardware or other forum? Are there other media players that will play QuickTime on a G3 iMac running Linux? I couldn't think of a reason to leave a Mac OS partition on my last install (Ubuntu 5.10) but now I wish I had just to play QT files.

<sigh> Linux is great on a G3 unless you want to play media or view flash websites. Then you might as well be using a Commodore 64. When I finally get my Mac Mini, I will hook it up to the TV to recreate that feeling But everything will work out of the box, and I won't have to install Linux just to use Firefox and open .doc files.

Hi,

Thank you for expending the effort to look those up. Unfortunately, those references do not answer my specific question. I want to know if Mplayer can be installed on a Linux system (no Mac OS) running on a G3 processor. The documentation I've seen mentions only G4 and X86 processors. I want to know if mplayer is compatible with my system before I go through the complicated process of compiling from source, and installing a different gcc, and anything else ivolved. I'll keep searching.
