To make gmplayer works you need to get a skin from Mplayer webpage, then unpack the file you download and put all the files (that are inside the unpacked folder) and copy to: /usr/local/share/mplayer/Skin/default/
If you want to use others skins, you can put them on ~/.maplayer/Skin
The sound problem maybe you can fix it putting another way out codec; i don't know how you do that in a terminal; i use the gmplayer, you can do it from the options.
i did wat u two guys suggested. i configure using --enable-gui option and downloaded Blue skin from the webpage and unpacked in the folder as Lier suggested.. but the prolem remains the same..
i dont know abt the vid's but i tried changing it from 1 to 10.. but it doesnt work...
i cant see the mplayer link in the startmenu->sound and video...
hi i got my gui working now.. its working with audio files but not properly with video files. its playing the video mush faster and no audio too.. i couldn play the wmv file.. these are the problems.. can u help me?
Go into the options and play a bit with the video driver settings. I'm now using xv as driver and some others ran stuff twice as fast. I'm not sure which will work but there aren't many options.
If you run mplayer from the command line do you get an error about the audio in the movie then?

Mplayer itself plays mp3s and video files fine, just cant get the gui working.
p.s. please treat me gently I have only been using Linux since the weekend.
You need, at least, one skin at "/usr/local/share/mplayer/Skin/default/", unpack blue skin and copy all the files(that are in the unpacked folder) to that location.
If you want to use others skins, you can put them on "~/.maplayer/Skin", and not on "~./mplayer/skin/default/skin" the last 2 folder don't have to exist. Be careful with the folders names, "skin" won't work, but "Skin" will.
hi
thanks to u guys, now video is playing properly with audio too. but i couldn run the wmv files and wma files.. what may be the problem? is there any codecs to be installed.. if so please tell me
i would suggest razzman and lier to load the new skin in the folder " /usr/local/share/mplayer/Skin/" .. after this there will be two folder in that directory as default and Blue( if use blue skin)..
while running from the terminal , use the command
"gmplayer -skin Blue".. it works for me...
That appears to hace worked it just complain about the default true type font missing which I am looking into as I type
also it crashed when playing train spotting the defintitve ed but if I want that sorted I should report if with a debug report to the mplayer developers
I recently installed the newest MPlayer from CVS from the offical homepage. I did everything the way the manual told me and I cant seem to get any video going. I got the codecs and extracted them into /usr/local/lib/codecs. I then went to install mplayer, configured it, make & make install, went to play a divx file and no vid.
So I went and found a Divx and Xvid codec and extracted them to the codecs folder in /usr/local/lib/codecs. I got the same problem. I can't even play normal mpegs. All I get is sound from those.
I also did the whole ffmpeg and got libavcodec and libavformat. I am sure I did everything correctly, but any help would be appreciative. I currently use Ubuntu 4.10 warty. If some one could kind of just guide me through step by step it would be great. I just would hate it to find out it was some stupid mistake. I am sure thats what it is.
