Glock you're using a really old package 0.90rc2 get the official 0.90 release (0.91 out soon apparently)

Is mplayer better than xine. Xine can play everything I want I just wish it had a few more options like playlists and 2x video size button.

Hi jbeedham!!!

Xine and mplayer are both great players. I personally prefer mplayer, but to play DVD's I still think xine is the best. If well compiled though, mplayer beats xine easily in speed. It's possible to have play lists on Xine.
When xine starts, clicking with your mouse middle button under xine windows will bring a gui. If you have an old 2 buttons mouse, you can call that gui, left click at xine screen and enable "gui" visibility.

At the extreme left of this gui, you have three small buttons:

playlist
control
open location

Clicking int playlist, will bring a self-explanatory window. Remember to save and load your playlist to make use of it.

try also:

apt-get update

then

apt-get install mplayer

That should do the trick, hopefully

"fr" = FreshRpms :-)

having similar problems with mplayer

I was having trouble using synaptic until I read this forum but I still having problems installing and using mplayer. after typing gmplayer the gui for mplayer comes up but does not respond but i get the following errors:

I'm having simliar issues...I've spent 12 hours readign these post on mplayer and have tried everything, well, everything but what works.

I use ap-get like megamean suggests...here's my error:

so, It keeps going in one continuos loop...I spent the whole day and night yesterday getting the xmms stuff install...this seems to be causing a problem with versions or something. Any help would be great!
