mplayer is stuck with some avi files

Dear sirs!

Most of videos are played well, but a couple of them no - after running mplayer with "Last samurai" (no gui while compiling) mplayer stops on the 2-4 frame. For some time I'm able to seek (I see that seeking is performed cos frames change, but no motion), and then in about 2-5 minuter mplayer is not able to respond to keyboard strokes and mouse clicks writing "no binding for...". No error messages. Shrek 2 has same encoding (Divx5 i believe) and plays perfectly. I was able to laung that movie files 2 times - with -dr key and -fvm ffmpeg key.

I must mention that hd sometimes behave strange but I don't think it relates the problem.

Newly installed Slackware 10 on Cel233/10gb fujitsu mpe/S3 Savage4 32mb/192mb. Installation disks are a bit scratched, so some binaries may be corrupted (that happened with X11, i had to recompile). Blackbox works fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Warm regards

if it just get's stuck i would think about using mencoder to rebuild the avi file structure.

mencoder -oac copy -ovc copy file.avi -o newfile.avi

this will recreate all the indexes and such like for seeking, but won't actually affect the video itself. it's a pretty quick process, about 500fps is typical i find....

Hi!

Thank you for prompt reply!
Actually I'm not familiar with mencoder but I'll learn it soon. OK, I'll try your suggestion this evening I guess.
But the fact is that I'm able to play that movie on my machine, so I assume that file is ok.
Thank you one more time.

Warm regards

No remdy yet, but found possible reason

Hi everybody!

I've tried
mencoder -oac copy -ovc copy file.avi -o newfile.avi
No luck.
When xmms is playing (so no sound is available) mplayer managed to play those couple of movies. Then I started mplayer with -ao null and movies went on. So I assume that problem is with sound.
What can I do? Other movies and mp3s are played fne with no errors.

Warm regards

Further update

Hi!

I've noticed that all "problem" movies have 48000hz (and one of them have 32000 I believe). sound card - Yamaha opl-3a or something like that. I think I've compiled mplayer before I'd added soundcard driver with
modprobe oplXXXXX.o
(I don't remember exactly the name of the driver)
May this be the source of problem? Should I recompile kernel with loaded soundcard driver? I guess mplayer tries to determine soundcard type while running ./configure, so if the driver was not present, mplayer was configured with some default sound device. Is this supposition right?
Thank you for your time.

Kindly regards
