MPlayer Install problem on Suse 9.0

I am using Suse 9.0 and am trying to install MPlayer. I downloaded MPlayer-1.0pre2.tar.bz2 and installed the requirements (glibc devel, XFree86 devel, and GTK 1.2 devel)
When I run a .configure everything goes fine and it tells me to run make then make install. The problem is that their is no make or make install in the directory. Any reason why??

Just type 'make' and after all that stuff scrolls by, type 'make install'. Make is a system command which compiles programs. Just typing 'make' compiles the program, 'make install' runs the stuff to install the program. You will need to run 'make install' as root otherwise the program will not install. Enjoy MPlayer!

I feel like such an idiot. Thanks. The problem was that the default install for Suse 9.0 didn't have the make package installed. So I just installed it and did a make and make install and mplayer is working now. Thanks again.
