Mplayer font error

I downloaded a precompiled package (mplayer 0.91) for SuSE 8.2 and it works great and all but I get this error everytime it starts up:

"New_Face failed. Maybe the font path is wrong. Please supply the text font file ~/.mplayer/subfont.ttf"

what the? I placed the arial-18 fonts as well as the runme in the mplayer directory and I still get that error. Any suggestions?

- SuSE 8.2
- KDE 3.1.1
