MPlayer and the dreaded alsa-control error

Hello

I can play videos in totem and vlc player perfectly fine but in MPlayer there seems to be an alsa-control problem and i get an error window opening and closing constantly when the video is playing.

Error message:

alsa-control: unable to find simple control 'PCM',0

Can anyone give me advice on how to fix this problem as it is "wreaking my head"...

Thanks.

try enabling the software mixer under preferences/audio. there were some posts on a suse board that claimed that fixed it. You still get sound in mplayer though right?

Yes but the sound quality is very bad in MPlayer, but perfect in vlc, amarok etc...
i will try that later when i get home.
Thanks for the reply.

Just use mplayer from the command line. Do not use its GUI version.
