MPlayer and quicktime files - noaudio!!!

Hi!

I am running mandrake 10.1 official with a 2.6.8.1-12mdk kernel.

I am trying to watch some quicktime video files and I get no audio. This used to work before, on the previous release. I have mplayer 1.0pre5-3.4.1 which came installed by an rpm.

My output is the following

nelson.nery > mplayer http://movies.apple.com/movies/fox/f...rt/fat_albert_
m480.mov

I had to install the package essential_codecs-20041107.tar.bz2. I unpaked in /usr/local/lib/win32, because mplayer couldn find some codec.

Now it finds it, but it still doesn work.

Do I have to recompile mplayer?

The funny thing is that it used to work before, without installing any extra codecs.

Thanks for all the help,

NELSON

You have to recompile mplayer before it'll see the new codecs you installed.

Hi!

But mplayer DOES see the codecs, because the previous output told me where it was looking for the codecs, so I just put them there.

And as you can see, it is using some of those newly installed codecs (QuickTime6.3 DLLs found
QuickTime.qts patched!!! old entry=0x6693c3e0), but that it says "WARNING! Invalid Ptr handle!
ADecoder preinit failed
ADecoder init failed
Cannot find codec for audio format 0x324D4451."

And I thinks this is where it goes wrong. But I have no clue of what to do. But thanks for looking into it.

I don't know, but it may be something really subtil, as some lib missing. I don't know.

I searched a lot in Google, but I had no luck.

Thanks for all the help,

NELSON

Quicktime in itself isn't open source isn't it? Then you might need a newer codec but I don't think you can get it now. It's worth recompiling though worked for me butit wasn't for a quicktime file though.
