you don't need the '#' infront of apt-rpm!
your shell should look like this:
[drof@pppa32-city-1r7114 drof]$ apt-get install mplayer

again, if you use synaptic you don't have to use the command line.
just 'search' and 'install'!
makes getting new progs too easy

I untarred the skin in my ~/.mplayer/Skin directory and then set skin=nameofskin in my ~/.mplayer/config file. That got gmplayer working for me.

mmm.....try /usr/share/mplayer/Skin/default

I haven't tried adding any skins but that looks like where they go.
