MPlayer and Fluxbox are like oil and water

I've recently switched from kde to fluxbox but mplayer is acting up in fluxbox. I get audio but the video is just a garbled green screen. I installed the mplayer browser plugin so that I could watch quicktime movies. It seems to randomly work in fluxbox and it ALWAYS works in kde. I captured the ouput of mplayer, from the same quicktime movie, in both kde and fluxbox. I then ran the 'diff' command to see if there where any big differences between the files. Here is the output:

(PROMPT)$ diff -i kde.txt flux.txt
16,19c16,18
< Reading config file /home/kde/.mplayer/config
< Reading /home/kde/.mplayer/codecs.conf: Reading /etc/mplayer/codecs.conf: 50 audio & 136 video codecs

I'm not exactly sure if I'm reading this right but it looks like the only difference between them is the usernames(which are fake for easier reading) and the fonts section.

Could the fonts have something to do with this?

you have a different user for each wm? that's bizarre...

what is garbled? what does it acutally look like? what kind of files? paste the full output from mplayer, maybe it's arts messing you around as it presumably won't be there outside of icky kde.

the diff you have there will only compare the stdout stream, not stderr, which is probably more informative.

bizarre you say? My girlfriend likes KDE and I'm trying out fluxbox.

Anyway, thats what I did. Its the browser plugin:

mozilla > kde.txt 2>&1

What you see is the output from the plugin running in the browser. Would it make a difference if I played a .mov file on my hard drive? I don't think so.
