mplayer - 99% vs 5% cpu usage.

Hi all,

I've been messing around with mplayer and getting it to run mov, mpeg and some ogg files.

I've noticed that when running gmplayer (GUI) my cpu usage rockets up to 99% and stays there, while using mplayer (CLI) it plays the files exactly the same way but the cpu hardly moves beyond 5%. Can anyone tell me why the drastic difference? Clearly, gmplayer isn't just a resource hog, it's a whole pig farm.

Not that I mind using the a CLI to run it, (it certainly impresses my Windows friends), but why such a huge leap between gui and cli? XMMS only suck out around 4-5%. Just wondering.

I've never used gmplayer, so this is only a wild
guess ... gmplayer uses a different video output
format?
Like -vo xv versus -vo SDL?

Cheers,
Tink

P.S.: mplayer does have a GUI of its own, no
need for gmplayer in the first place.... :)

man mplayer for details ;)
