Hi,
I've just downloaded MPLAYER and its dependencies LAME and X264. As they are dependencies , do they need to be installed in the same directory/folder. These are all RPM files stored on my desktop. How do I install these. I take it that I cd DESKTOP first of all, but how do I use the RPM installer. I'm new to Linux and have only used tar files until now.
Thanks,
Tim
p.s. Are any of you using the MPLAYER. Does it run commercial DVD's well? thanks again.
should help, never having used rpm i cant offfer any help myself.
You dont need to install the dependancies in the same directory in fact that'll probably stop them being found , because it will be out with your $PATH. just install them read the howto it will show you alot.

yes it's -i or --install to install a package. but it would be helpful to know what distro you are tying to install it on there could be an easier way. no mplayer was not installed that output is telling you you gave it an unrecognized option. did you type -i or -1 in the terminal? is the filename right and are you in the same directory? it could also help to know where you got those rpm files.
