mpeg-4 editor for linux


hi,
i got a new mpeg-4 DC. so, i got bunch of mpeg-4 video.
i want to know any mpeg-4 editor in linux. i am not so sure the video architihure in linux. is there any "codec" similar to windows DirectShow system.
currently, i can play the mpeg-4 video from videolan player. but, i want to export to DV avi for editing or any direct method to edit mpeg-4 video?
i know there are several DV editor such as Kino. but, i can import the mpeg-4 file to it. so, need some help!

you might look into kdenlive, it does dv video, not sure about mpeg 4 but it opens my avi files lol
