MPD Segmentation Fault

I'm running Ubuntu Breezy Badger, and i've got MPD 0.11.5. All my music is stored on an external FAT32 Hard-disk, theres about 44GBs worth or 7,000 tracks. On a previous install of MPD i could update/create my DB file fine, although i only had about 5,000 tracks back then. Now when i run mpd --create-db or --update-db it starts scanning and stops after about 500 tracks and says "Segmentation Fault". The samething is repeated in the error log:

"Apr 7 16:38 : update process died from a non-TERM signal: 11"

I checked that the filename of the file it stopped at, and its a standard "01 - title.mp3". I also checked that the file is the correct format, and its a standard 128kbps 44KHz MP3 file, and it plays back fine in MPG123. I also checked the mpd.conf to make sure the user had permission to access the external drive but that seems okay. I then tried creating the DB with MPD on a small section of my music collection, on 3 albums and it was absolutely fine. I then went more adventureous and tried to add more into the DB and tried about 1,000 tracks and it was fine again. Which I think rules out the possiblity of it being too many files at once.

I've been on the bugs site for MPD, and i've check their FAQs and Wiki pages and found nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get around this problem?

btw I installed it from apt-get.
