.mp3 to .3gp conversion

Hey Guys,

I'm looking for a solution to convert my .mp3 files to .3gp files so my cellphone can use them as ringtones. The problems that I'm running into is that vlc won't make this conversion, doesn't seem to support encoding into the 3gp codec. I've been using QuickTime up until this point but my Mac has gone kaput.

I tried to use mencoder from mplayer, but I've had more failures than triumphs. I've got ffmpeg installed, but you need to be a physicist to figure it out.

Any help would be appreciated

Welcome to LQ!

My understanding is VLC supports AMR encoding, don't know if it can be a built-in feature or VLC uses FFmpeg for this. Of course, FFmpeg has to be compiled with AMR (amrnb) support.
