mp3 id tags... how to change them ?
 

when i change id3 tag of certain mp3 files (using xmms or winamp under wine) it doesn't seem to have effect. mpg321, xmms, madplay, amp and friends are unable to read them. only one who can read them successfuly is winamp. (yes, i can change id3 tag in xmms and it works well in winamp but xmms ignores change made by itself)... any ideas, plz ?

You could try id3tag, though I'm unsure with which package it came. I have these three packages installed: libid3tag, id3lib and id3v2. You should be able to find then on
rpmfind.net or install then with yum when you're running Fedora Core.

Make sure that you have write permissions to the mp3 files to change it, then open xmms, right-click and choose "View file-info" or what it is called, and change :) ..

Your problem is likely to be due to the version of the tag you are writing, ID3 comes in the following versions v1,v1.1,v2,2,v2.3 and v2.4 and they vary alot so might be writing in one which is not supported by you reader.

You could try Jaikoz (www.jaikoz.net) this clearly shows the tag version and allows you to change to a files tag to any other tag version by simply changing it in a combo box.

I have some mp3s that have a liong file name and im using easytag to edit them but when i play them in my xmms doenst show all the song title. when i go to the view file info in xmms in the TITLE doenst show all the song name. how do i repair this!?

if it's a long title, then i'd guess that the applications are reading the id3v1 tag, not id3v2, which, afaik, has a longer field length. i would assume the tag version preference can be set within your players config.
