Mp3 are echoing

My debian 3.1 is echoing Mp3 files, plays CD's find how do i find the problem, do i have to many sound modules loaded?

what are you using to play the mp3's?

xmms gives a error that either the soundcard is not working properly or output device is not working

totem movie player is the onlything that launches when i double click in an mp3

so we need to find some different drivers. What sound card are you using? check in in the HCL and see if anyone else has had problems and then run a search for linux drivers for the card.

ok i've found out that it's a ess 1869
but i don't know how to load the module for it
i've tried alsaconf and modprobe but it can't find a module for it
any suggestions

did you see this. why not try the sndconfig thing in the first review
